Course Build Process
Note: 25% is due to reserve your spot prior to any work being done. Deposit is non-refundable once work begins
Timeline:
A typical course build can take from 2-6 weeks. It's possible for a course to take even longer if an exceptional amount of detail and custom work is included in the quote.
Requirements:
A course can be built as long as the following requirements are satisfied:
- 1-meter resolution or better LiDAR is available. Note: If LiDAR is not free, the cost of acquiring LiDAR will be paid by the client
- Good quality satellite imagery is available
- Course is not currently in process or available on a private server by another GSPro course designer
Process:
- Communication: The prospective client and I will discuss the course and go over some details for a no-obligation quote. I will review the availability of LiDAR, Satellite, ensuring that LiDAR matches the current course configuration. I'll review the options with the client, and we will decide whether to move forward with a build. During the entire process, we will communicate on the status of the build, and there will be several opportunities for questions.
- 25% Down Payment: At this point, a 25% down payment is required. This will reserve your spot in a queue if I have other courses currently in-process. Once work begins on the course, your down payment is non-refundable. Refunds due to buyer's remorse will be subject to a $20 service charge to cover PayPal fees.
- Course Layout: I will acquire lidar & satellite imagery, and convert it to a 3D rendering of your course. I will then begin mapping out the course features (greens, bunkers, tees, etc). I will often have questions for you at this stage, as I will largely be relying on good quality satellite imagery to tell where all the course features are. I'll convert the 3D rendering into a base terrain with generic textures & grass materials and be able to provide you a preview of the course without any vegetation or objects.
- Satellite Overlay: (Optional) If your build includes a satellite overlay, I will now begin modifying the course meshes to blend in the satellite imagery. This requires a lot of manual touch-ups on the satellite imagery to hide shadows, trees, houses, etc. It provides for a much more realistic look
- Basic Planting: I will plant the key standalone trees, houses, buildings and bushes to make the 3D rendering look more like a golf course. At this point, the course will be playable, but still in a basic form. Much editing and manual work is still required.
- Tees, Pins, Hazards: Here I add all the tees, pins, hazards and other items that makes this basic course playable. I can provide you now a video of me playing through the holes quickly to ensure that everything looks approximately right.
- Advanced Planting: A much more detailed job of planting and blending all the grasses, trees, and other vegetation is now done. It's after this point that the course will really start to take shape and you'll see your vision come to life. I will provide another flyover of screenshots of the course in it's near-final form.
- 50% Installment Due: At this point, an installment will be due prior to turning over a playable Beta.
- Playable Beta: I will release a playable beta version of the course to you. The main course areas can be considered finished, however there will be some final touches still required. Usually this will include background houses, trees and other decorations.
- Client Review: You will have an opportunity to test out this course and ensure it meets your expectations. All feedback is welcome. From here, I'll finish the final touches and incorporate any changes you identify into a final build.
- 25% Final Installment Due: the final 25% installment is due prior to publishing the course. Once you're happy with the final product, I will submit the course for publishing on the GSPro server.
